Samenvatting

Met zijn uitspraak ‘The ego is first and foremost a bodily ego; it is not merely a surface entity, but is itself the projection of a surface’ (1923) geeft Freud aan dat het zelfgevoel over het lichaam gevormd wordt gedurende de vroegste kindertijd. Jaren later doet Winnicott zijn vaak geciteerde uitspraak: ‘there is no such thing as a baby; there is a baby and someone … there is a nursing couple’ (1964, pag. 88).
