Adolescent Violence in the Home: Restorative Approaches to Building Healthy, Respectful Family Relationships, by Gregory Routt and Lily Anderson discusses teen violence in the home. This form of home violence is not well understood and is taboo to many in today’s society. Violence in the home involving teens is typically attributed to chaotic home life, poor parenting skills, or mental illness. Furthermore, the issue is under-recognized because of the negative view that social circles place on adolescent violence within the home. This book reveals that teen violence is a very prevalent issue that affects a large population internationally. Adolescence is a complex period of development, which adds many factors to the issue of home violence. The authors seek to reveal the extent of this issue and identify different factors of abuse that play a role in complicating perceptions about the issue. The hope is to help understand all parties involved, to reach healing as well as restoration. This well put together book effectively sheds light on the issue of teen violence through research, expert experience, and testimonials. Although it sometimes reads like a textbook, the insight and skills presented are helpful tools for struggling parents, teens, or practitioners. …
