Abstract

Neuro-imaging als hulpmiddel bij wetenschappelijk onderzoek in de psychiatrie wordt al geruime tijd toegepast, maar de waarde ervan was tot voor enkele decennia beperkt. De voornaamste reden was de geringe sensitiviteit van de bestaande radiologische en neurofysiologische (bijv. elektro-encefalografie ’ eeg) onderzoekstechnieken, zodat slechts bij een klein aantal ziektebeelden afwijkingen konden worden vastgesteld (zoals bij sommige dementiële beelden en het delier).
