Fractuurfixatie bij osteoporose

Samenvatting

De incidentie van osteoporose neemt met de dubbele vergrijzing steeds meer toe. Volgens een recente schatting lopen er wereldwijd 100-200 miljoen mensen per jaar het risico om een osteoporotische fractuur op te lopen. Mineraalverlies per volumeeenheid, in combinatie met verslechtering van de microarchitectuur maakt het bot zwakker, wat leidt tot een verhoogd risico op een fractuur, met name wervelinzakkingsfracturen en metafysaire fracturen in de lange pijpbeenderen. Recente ontwikkelingen binnen de osteosynthesetechnieken van osteoporotische fracturen leiden mogelijk tot een vergroting van het succespercentage van de osteosynthese. Dit overzicht geeft overwegingen en bespreekt enige ‘tips and tricks’ bij de osteosynthese van veelvoorkomende osteoporotische fracturen. De wervelfracturen blijven buiten beschouwing.
