The articles presented in this special issue of Psychological Research have been contributed to mark the 5th anniversary of the untimely death of Dieter Heller, professor of psychology at the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH), Germany, from 1990 to November 2003 (see Debus & Müller, 2004, for a personal appraisal). The papers in this volume, all authored by students of Dieter Heller and/or long-time colleagues and co-workers, reflect many of the domains and issues that were at the core of his work. They include projects that he has been associated with in various capacities: as the initiator of a programmatic line of research, as a collaborator in long-term international cooperations, or as a partner in extensive, often controversial, but always productive personal discussions. …
