Executieve functies van geboorte tot adolescentie: een literatuuroverzicht

Abstract

Executieve functies zijn psychologische processen die een belangrijke rol spelen bij het reguleren van gedrag en het coördineren van handelingen voor specifieke doeleinden. Deze processen omvatten onder andere het vermogen om vooruit te denken, problemen op te lossen, strategieën te bepalen, selectief de aandacht op iets te richten en automatische reacties te inhiberen. In het verleden werd onderzoek op het gebied van executieve functies voornamelijk verricht vanuit een klinische context waarbij de gevolgen van frontaal hersenletsel werden onderzocht.

In deze studie wordt onderzocht hoe executieve disfuncties zich manifesteren bij jonge kinderen (< 7 jaar) met adhd-symptomen. Het is van belang Nederlandse neuro-psychologische tests te ontwikkelen die geschikt zijn om executieve functies bij kleine kinderen te meten.
