19. Dialectische gedragstherapie

Samenvatting

Cognitieve gedragstherapie (CGT) roept in het algemeen verzet op bij borderlinecliënten, omdat de nadruk die daarin voortdurend wordt gelegd op de noodzaak tot verandering ervaren wordt als kritiek op en invalidatie van hun pijn en lijden. In feite wordt hiermee de neiging van BPS-cliënten om zichzelf te bekritiseren en te invalideren versterkt. DGT benadrukt daarom expliciet de noodzaak om veranderingsgerichte strategieën af te wisselen met op acceptatie gerichte en validerende strategieën. De toepassing van een dialectische filosofie zorgt voor integratie van beide benaderingen. DGT is overdraagbaar, omdat het behandelprogramma, de interventies en de strategieën in protocollen uitgewerkt zijn en vergezeld gaan van een handleiding. In dit hoofdstuk worden in vogelvlucht de theoretische onderbouwing van DGT en de basiscomponenten van het behandelprogramma besproken. In de tekst worden enkele voorbeelden gegeven van de belangrijkste instrumenten en technieken. Tot slot worden gegevens over de effectiviteit van DGT besproken.
