Samenvatting

De wandelstok is wellicht het meest gebruikte loophulpmiddel. Antwoord wordt gezocht op de volgende vragen: Wat is de beste vorm van het handvat van de stok? Hoe bepalen we de juiste lengte van de stok? Hoe kan de stok bijdragen aan de balans? Aan welke zijde kan de stok het best gebruikt worden: aan de aangedane of aan de niet-aangedane zijde? De antwoorden zijn respectievelijk zwanenhals; de afstand van het polsgewricht tot de grond; vergroten van het steunvlak plus haptische (via de tastzin) informatie; de niet-aangedane zijde.
