De prevalentie van psychische aandoeningen onder jongeren opgenomen met een alcoholintoxicatie

Samenvatting

Inleiding

Adolescenten met een stoornis in het middelengebruik worden geregeld gediagnosticeerd met een bijkomende psychische aandoening. Het voorkomen van psychische aandoeningen onder jongeren opgenomen met een alcoholintoxicatie is echter nog niet eerder onderzocht. Het doel van dit onderzoek is om de prevalentie van psychische aandoeningen bij jongeren met een alcoholvergiftiging te bepalen.

Methode

Het betreft een retrospectief onderzoek waarin alle patiënten onder de 18 jaar zijn geïncludeerd die in de periode 2007 tot en met 2017 waren opgenomen met een acute alcoholintoxicatie op de kinderafdeling van een groot perifeer ziekenhuis.

Resultaten

Ruim 90% komt op poliklinische controle bij de kinderarts en 67% van de jongeren wordt gezien voor een screeningsconsult door de kinderpsycholoog. In totaal hadden 245 jongeren (34%) met een alcoholintoxicatie een psychische aandoening, zoals AD(H)D (13%) of een autismespectrumstoornis (2,1%). Vooral AD(H)D lijkt in de onderzoekspopulatie vaker voor te komen dan in de algemene Nederlandse populatie.

Conclusie

De prevalentie van psychische aandoeningen onder jongeren met een alcoholintoxicatie is relatief hoog. Deze bevinding kan gebruikt worden voor preventie.
