Samenvatting

Een hersenletsel kan hoofdzakelijk tot drie typen communicatiestoornissen leiden: afasie, dysartrie en apraxie. Deze drie typen communicatiestoornissen kunnen voorkomen ongeacht de aard van het letsel. Een afasie kan bijvoorbeeld het gevolg zijn van een cerebrovasculair accident (cva), maar kan ook optreden ten gevolge van een tumor, een degeneratieve aandoening, een infectie, intoxicatie of ten gevolge van een trauma. Toch worden naargelang de aard van de hersenaandoening ook meer specifieke beelden gezien. Eén groep patiënten die aldus als een aparte populatie kan worden beschouwd, zijn de hersentraumapatiënten.
