Samenvatting

Chloasma is een vlekkerige, symmetrische hyperpigmentatie in het gelaat, die met name bij vrouwen voorkomt.1, 2 Synoniemen zijn: melasma, melanoderma, melanosis faciei, ‘levervlekken’ en, vanwege het optreden van deze hyperpigmentaties tijdens de zwangerschap, ‘zwangerschapsmasker’. Chloasma is afgeleid van het Griekse ‘cloazein’, wat ‘groen zijn’ betekent. Het Griekse ‘melas’ betekent ‘zwart’. Melasma is dus de correctere benaming voor deze aandoening.
