Inleiding

Een opgewekte potentiaal – in het Engels evoked potential (EP) – is een potentiaalverandering die ontstaat in het spier- en zenuwstelsel (perifeer en centraal). In dit hoofdstuk beperken we ons tot EP’s die worden opgewekt in het centrale (en perifere) zenuwstelsel na perifere zenuwstimulatie (somatosensorische evoked potentials; SSEP’s) of auditieve stimulatie (voornamelijk brainstem auditory evoked potentials; BAEP ’s).
