43. Somatosensorische evoked potentials bij het postanoxisch coma

Inleiding

Met somatosensorische evoked potentials (SSEP’s) wordt de integriteit van het somatosensorische systeem onderzocht. Het somatosensorische systeem bestaat uit twee componenten: het achterstrengsysteem (mechanoreceptie en propriocepsis) en het spinothalame systeem (nociceptie, thermoreceptie en visceroreceptie). Elk systeem is opgebouwd uit vier in serie geschakelde neuronale populaties waarvan het eerste neuron ligt in de ganglia van de achterwortel, het tweede neuron ofwel in de achterstrengkernen (achterstrengsysteem) ofwel in de achterhoorn zelf (spinothalame systeem), het derde neuron in de ventroposterieure kern van de thalamus en het vierde neuron in de somatosensorische corticale gebieden.
