Samenvatting

Perifere articulatiestoornissen zijn spraakstoornissen die niet neurologisch en evenmin organisch verklaard kunnen worden. De perifere articulatiestoornissen worden veroorzaakt door functionele problemen in de spraakwaarneming (auditief, visueel, oraal tactiel-kinesthetisch, multisensorieel) en door een (dientengevolge) afwijkende spraakmotoriek. Deze articulatiestoornissen moeten worden onderscheiden van fonologische problemen, waardoor een kind ook uitspraakfouten maakt. Het gebruik van termen als fonetische en fonologische articulatiestoornissen om articulatiestoornissen in te delen is een onterechte, wetenschappelijk niet juiste, benadering.
