We appreciate the comments raised by Drs. Klahm and Larson and the opportunity to clarify our methodology in relation to these concerns. We would also like to thank Drs. Klahm and Larson for their close attention to our study and for taking the time to express their thoughts. As they note, many demolitions occurred in Detroit prior to 2014, and our study (Jay et al., 2019) analyzed a subset of the over 10,000 demolitions that occurred citywide between 2014 and 2016—specifically, those demolitions (n = 6404) that occurred from Q2 2014–Q3 2015 in the block groups that met the inclusion criteria described in our article. …
