Samenvatting

In overgrote meerderheid worden bij de klacht gewichtstoename geen lichamelijke oorzakelijke afwijkingen gevonden. Indien anamnestisch hiervoor geen aanwijzingen zijn, kan het onderzoek zich verder richten op de energiebalans: de intake en het verbruik van calorieën.
Omdat de meeste mensen met gewichtstoename ook lijden aan overgewicht, is het zinvol ook aandacht te besteden aan de risico’s van het overgewicht, vooral het risico op hart- en vaatziekten.
