Samenvatting

De bekkenbodem is op de cortex (motorische homunculus) in verhouding tot onze zintuigen slechts een klein gebiedje. Oefenen met de bekkenbodem heeft daarbij als nadeel dat je geen direct zicht hebt op je eigen vagina of anus. Daarom is duidelijke uitleg waar de bekkenbodem zich bevindt, hoe deze aanvoelt en wat je ermee kunt doen belangrijk voor de beeldvorming in onze hersenen.

a Verzakkingsklacht of ‘pelvic organ prolapse’ (POP): een verzakking van een of meerdere lage buikorganen, zoals de blaas, baarmoeder, endeldarm of rectum, wat kenmerkende klachten kan geven als zeurende lagerug en buikpijn, een moe en zwaar gevoel van de bekkenbodem en een ‘balgevoel’ in de vagina (Slieker-ten Hove, 2009).

b Ontlastingsverlies (fecale incontinentie (FI)): onvrijwillig verlies van windjes (flatulentie) of zachte of harde ontlasting (feces); leidt vaak tot een sociaal en hygiënisch probleem (Bols, 2010; Norton, 2009).
