Samenvatting

In de multidisciplinaire richtlijn ‘Chronisch hartfalen’ (1) wordt hartfalen gedefinieerd als ‘een complex van klachten en verschijnselen ten gevolge van een tekortschietende pompfunctie van het hart’. Tegenwoordig wordt er een onderscheid gemaakt tussen systolisch hartfalen (vooral de knijpkracht schiet te kort) en diastolisch hartfalen (de vullingcapaciteit van het hart is onvoldoende). De meeste onderzoeken op het gebied van hartfalen, richten zich op het systolisch hartfalen.
