Samenvatting

Jaarlijks vinden in Nederland ongeveer 35.000 vasectomieën plaats. Deze relatief eenvoudige ingreep kan na adequate scholing goed door de huisarts worden uitgevoerd. Vanwege het definitieve karakter is een goede voorlichting over de gevolgen vereist. Voor de technische uitvoering zijn diverse methodieken beschikbaar, waarvan een aantal aan de hand van de literatuur wordt besproken. Complicaties zijn niet zeldzaam maar hebben een gunstig beloop. Hoewel de kans op een spontane rekanalisatie weliswaar kleiner is dan 1 procent, dient ongeveer drie maanden na de ingreep spermacontrole plaats te vinden. De kans op zwangerschap na een hersteloperatie is gemiddeld minder dan 50 procent.
