Pivotal randomised controlled trials and registries showed that both sirolimus- and paclitaxel-eluting stents proved to be superior to bare metal stents at one year of follow-up in selected patients. The present thesis aims to provide insights into the long-term safety, efficacy and caveats of drug-eluting stents.
