Samenvatting

‘Prematuur’ betekent ‘te vroeg geboren’, dat wil zeggen na een zwangerschapsduur < 37 weken. Een voldragen zwangerschap eindigt na 37-42 weken; er wordt dan gesproken van een ‘à terme’ geboorte. Bij prematuren wordt nog een aparte categorie onderscheiden: de ernstige prematuren, geboren na een zwangerschapsduur < 32 weken.
