If you think this piece is about the differing roles of the occupational physician and the insurance physician – or about different views of the role of the occupational physician – than you are wrong. If I recently still felt to be in the comfortable position that insurance physicians are little bothered by this nearly classic ‘contrast’, with the recent modernisation of the Sickness Benefits Act (ZW) this discussion sprung up in the insurance medical field as well. To my surprise, I have to (naively?) admit. I am of the opinion that counselling and assessing cannot be separated. Counselling and assessing not only can go together, but in practice do go together and perhaps must go together in order to practise insurance medicine properly. …
