11. Stand van zaken rond digitale beeldvorming

Abstract

Sinds de komst van de computer was er ook in de tandheelkunde - parallel aan de digitalisering van onze maatschappij - sprake van een snelle ontwikkeling van nieuwe technologieën. De moderne praktijk is een geïntegreerde digitale werkomgeving waar de computer met gegevensnetwerk centraal staan. Met het digitale patiëntendossier is het mogelijk digitale beelden - zowel radiografische als fotografische - efficiënt op te slaan, te bewerken en te presenteren aan de geïnteresseerde patiënt. De intraorale camera met beeldscherm aan de stoel, de digitale röntgensensoren die via USB-aansluiting of draadloos op het gegevensnetwerk aansluiten, de optische scanning van kroonpreparaties voor CAD/CAM-restauraties of digitale occlusiemodellen wijzen op een stroomversnelling in de orale beeldvorming, waar diagnostiek, optimale visualisatie en lage stralingsdosis centraal staan. Bij aanschouwing van het elektromagnetisch spectrum valt te zien dat niet alleen het gebruik van ioniserende straling maar ook van niet-ioniserende straling centraal staat in de technologische vooruitgang van de orale beeldvorming (afb. 11.1).
