Samenvatting

Polsafwijkingen als gevolg van overbelasting vormen een veelvoorkomend probleem bij sporters. De prevalentie is vooral hoog in sporten waarbij veelvuldige repetitieve krachten over de polsregio noodzakelijk zijn, zoals turnen, golf, handbal, volleybal, tennis en andere racketsporten. Bepaalde afwijkingen treden ook specifiek op bij sporters, zoals de groeischijfafwijkingen bij jonge turners en de wielrennerspols. Andere afwijkingen, zoals de ziekte van De Quervain, zijn niet specifiek voor atleten, maar komen wel frequent bij hen voor. In dit artikel wordt een overzicht gegeven van de polsproblemen die veelvuldig optreden bij atleten en die een gevolg zijn van overbelasting of frequente microtraumata. Daarnaast wordt ingegaan op eventuele specifieke omstandigheden, de behandelingsmogelijkheden en het revalidatietraject zoals beschreven in de literatuur.
