Samenvatting

Polsletsels komen frequent voor bij het uitoefenen van diverse sporten. Een van de ontstaansmechanismen is het optreden van een acute, excessieve oncontroleerbare kracht. Deze traumatische letsels komen vooral voor bij contact- en snelheidssporten. Veel van deze letsels zijn niet specifiek voor atleten. Echter, bepaalde letsels komen bij bepaalde sportactiviteiten vaker voor en de behoefte en noodzaak tot snel herstel kunnen verschillen van de niet-sporters. In dit artikel worden de diverse direct-traumatische letsels van de pols beschreven die kunnen voorkomen bij sporters, en wordt een overzicht gegeven van de behandelingsmogelijkheden en het revalidatietraject zoals beschreven in de literatuur.
