9. Slaapgerelateerde bewegingsstoornissen

Samenvatting

Slaapgerelateerde bewegingsstoornissen omvatten diverse aandoeningen gekenmerkt door overmatige en/of abnormale bewegingen in de slaap. De belangrijkste en meest voorkomende aandoening is het rusteloze benen syndroom, al dan niet gepaard gaande met periodieke beenbewegingen in de slaap. Andere slaapgerelateerde bewegingsstoornissen zijn onder andere bruxisme, rhythmic movement disorder, waaronder hoofdbonken, en een aantal relatief zeldzame vormen van myoclonieën. Slaapgerelateerde bewegingsstoornissen komen soms in het kader van psychiatrische aandoeningen voor, en kunnen (mede) beïnvloed worden door medicatie. Soms kunnen psychiatrische aandoeningen zélf met bewegingsonrust gepaard gaan en daarmee in de differentiële diagnose van een slaapgerelateerde bewegingsstoornis voorkomen. Andersom gaan ernstige slaapgerelateerde bewegingsstoornissen vaak gepaard met psychische klachten.
