Samenvatting

  • Alle materialen in de mond worden bij blootsteling aan speeksel direct bedekt met een laag geadsorbeerde speekseleiwitten, de pellicle.
  • Pellicles functioneren als lubricerende coatings die de onderliggende weefsels beschermen tegen slijtage door wrijving.
  • De tandpellicle beschermt het glazuur tegen directe aantasting door zuren en voorkomt ongeremde aanhechting van micro-organismen.
  • Statherine en prolinerijke eiwitten in de tandpellicle vormen een reservoir van calciumionen voor remineralisatie van tandglazuur
  • MUC5B in orale pellicles is van essentieel belang voor de smering van orale oppervlakken.
  • Daarnaast beschermt MUC5B in pellicles de onderliggende weefsels tegen directe inwerking van schadelijke verbindingen en remt de microbiële kolonisatie van orale oppervlakken.
