Oorlogstrauma bij vluchtelingen uit de frontlinies

Abstract

Binnen de huidige literatuur over posttraumatische stress–stoornissen worden deelaspecten van de verschijningsvorm, ontstaanswijze en behandeltechnieken van (chronische) posttraumatische stress beschreven. In dit artikel wordt gestreefd naar integratie van de aanwezige kennis door middel van een overzicht van de huidige inzichten en hun uitwerking in de dagelijkse praktijk. Allereerst worden symptomatologie en neurofysiologische achtergronden van posttraumatische stress besproken. Vervolgens komt de behandeling van posttraumatische stress aan de orde. Deze wordt in de literatuur in drie fasen ingedeeld: stabilisatie en symptoomreductie; identificatie, exploratie en modificatie van traumatische herinneringen; en herintegratie van de persoonlijkheid en rehabilitatie. Deze indeling wordt in dit overzicht aangehouden. Aandacht wordt besteed aan traumatische (tegen)overdracht en de invloed van ballingschap. De diagnostische facetten en therapeutische technieken worden geïllustreerd met een casus. Dit slaat een brug tussen theorie en praktijk.
