Ontwikkeling van kinderen met perinatale risicofactoren: theoretische achtergrond, literatuurgegevens en implementatie in de praktijk

Samenvatting

Biologische, psychologische en sociologische factoren beïnvloeden de ontwikkeling van pasgeborenen tot volwassene in de loop der tijd, in een samenspel van dynamisch interacterende systemen. De aard en de mate van perinatale problemen worden beïnvloed door al deze factoren, en op hun beurt hebben perinatale risicofactoren weer specifieke effecten op de biologische, psychologische en sociologische factoren die, steeds in dynamische interactie, de verdere ontwikkeling van het kind bepalen.
De gevolgen van perinatale risicofactoren als (extreme) vroeggeboorte of een (extreem) laag geboortegewicht kunnen worden onderzocht aan de hand van de mate van mortaliteit of overleving, van het voorkomen van ernstige handicaps of beperkingen, en van problemen in somatische, neuromotorische, cognitieve en sociaal-emotionele ontwikkeling. Voor een aantal veelgebruikte categorieën van perinatale risicofactoren wordt een overzicht van de verschillende uitkomsten uit de onderzoeksliteratuur gegeven. Ten slotte wordt aangegeven hoe deze kennis in de praktijk gebruikt zou moeten en kunnen worden.
