De uitkomst van pasgeborenen na behandeling met extracorporele membraanoxygenatie

Samenvatting

Extracorporele membraanoxygenatie (ecmo) wordt toegepast bij pasgeborenen met hoge mortaliteitskans bij ernstige cardiorespiratoire insufficiëntie. ecmo verbetert de overleving van deze kinderen. Na ecmo-behandeling bestaat de morbiditeit vooral uit voedingsstoornissen, gestoorde groei, obstructief longlijden en visus en gehoorstoornissen. Voor wat betreft de neuromotore en cognitieve ontwikkeling zijn er geen studies met een adequate controle groep. Gezien de mate van ziek zijn van deze kinderen voor de ecmo-behandeling lijkt de ontwikkeling echter bemoedigend.
