Ontwikkeling van algoritmes voor oordeelkundig gebruik van psychofarmaca bij ouderen met verhoogd valrisico

Samenvatting

De consumptie van psychofarmaca (slaap- of kalmeringsmiddelen, antidepressiva en antipsychotica) in de oudere populatie is hoog. Langdurig gebruik van psychofarmaca op oudere leeftijd kent verschillende negatieve gevolgen zoals een verhoogd valrisico. Graduele afbouw van psychofarmaca in deze leeftijdsgroep is mogelijk en leidt tot een significante vermindering van valincidenten. Zowel afbouw als het oordeelkundig opstarten van psychofarmaca vraagt om kennis, overleg, samenwerking en een mentaliteitswijziging bij gezondheidszorgwerkers. Om gezondheidswerkers hierbij te informeren en te ondersteunen, ontwikkelde het Expertisecentrum Val- en fractuurpreventie Vlaanderen drie algoritmes voor oordeelkundig gebruik van psychofarmaca in het kader van valrisico en een steekkaart met achtergrondinformatie.
