Samenvatting

Alvorens verschillende onderzoeksopzetten worden besproken, wordt ingegaan op het formuleren van een goede situationele of abstracte vraagstelling, onder andere aan de hand van de PICO-criteria. Vervolgens wordt uitgelegd hoe een goede onderzoekspopulatie gekozen wordt en hoe deze gepositioneerd wordt ten opzichte van de bronpopulatie, de doelpopulatie en de totale populatie. Paragraaf 4.3 beschrijft hoe de verschillende onderzoeksopzetten kunnen worden ingedeeld aan de hand van designkenmerken of aan de hand van bewijslast. Het overige deel van het hoofdstuk beschrijft de opzet van het gerandomiseerde experiment, het prospectieve cohortonderzoek, het retrospectieve cohortonderzoek, het patiënt-controleonderzoek, het cross-sectioneel onderzoek en het ecologisch onderzoek.
