De helende werking van het arts-patiëntcontact

Samenvatting

Tussen een medische interventie en de therapeutische effecten daarvan bestaat geen één-op-één-relatie. Allerlei patiënt- en artsgebonden factoren alsook de arts-patiëntinteractie dragen in meer of mindere mate bij aan het effect van de interventie. Inzicht in de aard van deze factoren kan leiden tot een beter begrip van de patiënt en uiteindelijk diens gezondheid ten goede komen. Op basis van literatuuronderzoek blijkt een langdurige arts-patiëntrelatie belangrijke gezondheidswinst op te leveren. Daarnaast blijkt ook aandacht van de huisarts voor de emoties, verwachtingen en informatiebehoefte van de patiënt bevorderlijk voor de gezondheid. De gezondheid van de patiënt is dus nog steeds gebaat bij persoonlijke, integrale en continue zorg zoals die van oudsher door de huisarts wordt gegeven.
