Effectonderzoek naar preventieprogramma’s voor kinderen met gedragsproblemen

Samenvatting

Gedragsproblemen bij kinderen voorspellen een reeks ongunstige uitkomsten op volwassen leeftijd, zoals antisociaal en delinquent gedrag. Omdat met klinische behandelingen maar een klein deel van de populatie kan worden bereikt, zijn in verschillende landen preventieprogramma’s ontwikkeld. Terwijl Nederlandse preventieprogramma’s nauwelijks op hun effectiviteit zijn onderzocht, is er in de afgelopen tien jaar een reeks Amerikaanse en Canadese preventieprogramma’s geevalueerd. Dit artikel geeft een beknopt overzicht van deze effectstudies. Veel preventieprogramma’s boeken goede resultaten; er is echter een substantieel aantal dat weinig effect sorteert. De succesvolle programma’s zijn zeer intensief en daardoor kostbaar. Langetermijnresultaten moeten worden afgewacht.
