De ontwikkeling van internaliserende en externaliserende problemen van peutertijd tot preadolescentie

Vroege voorlopers en ontwikkelingspaden

Samenvatting

Uit een longitudinaal onderzoek onder een groep van 420 peuters uit de algemene bevolking bleek dat internaliserende en externaliserende problemen in de peutertijd dezelfde soort problemen voorspellen in de preadolescentie. Ook bleken lichamelijke problemen op twee- en driejarige leeftijd een belangrijke voorspeller van zowel internaliserende als externaliserende problemen acht jaar later. Verder speelden oppositioneel gedrag en angst in de peutertijd, alsmede sociale problemen in de kleutertijd een belangrijke rol in ontwikkelingspaden naar internaliserende en externaliserende problemen in de preadolescentie. Deze ontwikkelingspaden waren verschillend voor jongens en meisjes.
