Within the field of cardiology the issue of gender differences has received attention since it was recognised that risk factors for cardiovascular disease were unevenly distributed according to sex. In recent years, it has been increasingly realised that not only does gender influence the manifestations of disease, but also that the management of men and women is often unequal.
