10. Het lichaam in de therapiekamer: somatische resonantie en somatische tegenoverdracht

Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk bespreek ik hoe de psychotherapeut in het contact met een patiënt gebruik kan maken van de eigen lichamelijke en emotionele ervaringen. Ik start met een onderzoek naar somatische tegenoverdracht. Vervolgens bespreek ik hoe je gebruik kunt maken van de (rechterhemisferische) lichamelijke ervaringen en de ‘intuïtieve’ beelden die je krijgt in het contact met een patiënt. Ik schrijf ‘intuïtief’ tussen aanhalingstekens omdat het lijkt of deze lichamelijke ervaringen en beelden tot je komen zonder na te denken, maar het is in feite het resultaat van een empathisch en intersubjectief proces. Soms kan het daarin ook misgaan, en dan ontstaan enactments, waarbij de therapeut zich identificeert met een projectie van de patiënt en vandaar uit gaat handelen. Ten slotte beschrijf ik vastgelopen therapieprocessen, waarin patiënte en therapeut als twee sumoworstelaars aan elkaar geketend lijken. Ik baseer me behalve op de klassieke auteurs over tegenoverdracht, op door de neurobiologie beïnvloede schrijvers als Allan Schore, de onderzoekers Beatrice Beebe en Frank Lachman en de Boston Change Process Study Group.

Rêverie of mijmeren is het laten gaan van je gedachtes zodat je ruimte maakt voor associaties en beelden. De term komt van de Britse psychoanalyticus Bion (1967), die ook zegt dat je je als psychotherapeut even los moet maken van een plan of agenda om tot je te laten komen wat er in de interactie met de patiënt gebeurt.
