Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk wordt aan de hand van neurobiologisch onderzoek naar hechting en empathie besproken hoe we verschillende vormen van verwarring over het lichaam kunnen verklaren en behandelen. Het begint met de vraag ‘van wie is het lichaam’, waarbij de grens tussen zelf en ander vaag is. Dit speelt een grote rol bij mensen met een ambivalent-gepreoccupeerde of gedesorganiseerde gehechtheidsstijl. In de spreekkamer van de psychotherapeut betekent dit dat er een ander beroep op je wordt gedaan: je wordt subtiel of minder subtiel uitgenodigd om de interactieve regulering op je te nemen. Patiënten vragen om geruststelling en klampen zich aan je uitspraken vast. Dit blijkt echter een valkuil. Aangegeven wordt hoe dit te hanteren is zodat de representaties van zelf en ander kunnen veranderen. Daarvoor introduceer ik het Ideale Ouder Protocol van Brown en Elliott (2016).
