Oorzaken en vroege onderkenning van dyslexie: een multidisciplinaire benadering

Abstract

Dyslexie als aangeboren stoornis die zich manifesteert in problemen met leren lezen en spellen staat al meer dan honderd jaar in de belangstelling van de wetenschap. De aangeboren vorm van dyslexie onderscheidt zich van de verworven vormen (Holmes, 1978). Verworven dyslexie ontstaat als gevolg van hersenbeschadigingen waarbij voorheen intacte vaardigheden op het gebied van lezen en spellen worden aangetast. We zullen ons hier verder richten op de aangeboren vorm van dyslexie, ook wel ontwikkelingsdyslexie genoemd.
