Herpes zoster

Samenvatting

Herpes zoster (gordelroos) is een aandoening die regelmatig voorkomt: een vijfde van de mensen krijgt tijdens het leven ooit herpes zoster. De gemiddelde incidentie bedraagt 3,2 per 1000 personen per jaar. De aandoening komt vooral bij ouderen voor. Boven de 80 jaar bedraagt de incidentie 9,6 per 1000 personen per jaar.1 Herpes zoster kenmerkt zich door een lokale, vaak branderige pijn, gepaard gaande met een eenzijdig vesiculeus exantheem. Meestal vindt binnen enkele weken spontane genezing plaats, zodat behandeling met pijnstillers en uitleg over het te verwachten beloop volstaan. De belangrijkste complicaties van herpes zoster zijn postherpetische neuralgie en oogcomplicaties bij herpes zoster ophthalmicus.
