2. Gedragsproblemen

Samenvatting

Het is van groot belang dat kinderen en jongeren voldoende psychosociale, emotionele en leervaardigheden ontwikkelen. Wanneer de ontwikkeling daarvan achterwege blijft, lopen jeugdigen het risico op gedragsproblemen van uiteenlopende aard. In dit hoofdstuk geven we een indeling van de belangrijkste probleemgedragingen die bij jeugdigen kunnen voorkomen. We richten de aandacht speciaal op jeugdigen die extra risico lopen op het ontwikkelen van te weinig vaardigheden. Dit zijn jeugdigen met ‘attention deficit hyperactivity disorder’ (ADHD), angstig en stemmingsverstoord gedrag, evenals jeugdigen met ernstige gedragsproblemen, zoals oppositioneel-opstandig, agressief en antisociaal gedrag (ODD/CD) en jeugdigen met autisme. Verder wordt in dit hoofdstuk uitgebreid ingegaan op de maatregelen die opvoeders, school en professionals kunnen nemen, om te voorkomen dat jeugdigen gedragsproblemen ontwikkelen. Wij presenteren ook wetenschappelijk onderbouwde principes en interventiemethoden voor het terugdringen van gedragsproblemen bij jeugdigen.
