Samenvatting

Gebitsslijtage is een multifactoriële aandoening die leidt tot het verlies van de harde tandweefsels. Gebitsslijtage kan worden onderverdeeld in mechanische slijtage (subvormen attritie en abrasie) en chemische slijtage (subvorm erosie). Gezien het multifactoriële karakter, presenteert gebitsslijtage zich in een veelvoud aan verschijningsvormen. Zorgvuldige diagnostiek is gewenst. Door gebruik te maken van de diagnostiekmodules van het gebitsslijtagebeoordelingssysteem (GBS) heeft de behandelaar een handvat voor zowel de basisdiagnostiek (voor de algemeen practicus), als voor de aanvullende diagnostiek (voor bijv. een gedifferentieerd centrum). Ook is er een aantal behandelmodules die achtereenvolgens een leidraad geven voor de vraag wanneer te gaan behandelen, het inschatten van de complexiteit van die behandeling, en het bepalen van de volgorde van de behandeling. Een aantal algemene aspecten van de restauratieve behandeling komen aan bod, zoals de methodiek, de mate van invasiviteit en de materiaalkeuze. Het principe van Dahl wordt verduidelijkt.
