Essentiële tremor

Samenvatting

Essentiële tremor is de meest voorkomende bewegingsstoornis. Het betreft meestal (95%) een tremor van de handen.1 Minder vaak doen het hoofd, de stem of de benen ook mee. De klachten nemen in de meeste gevallen bij het ouder worden toe. De prevalentie in de bevolking wordt geschat op 5-60 per 1000 personen.2 Op oudere leeftijd en bij personen van het Kaukasische ras komt essentiële tremor vaker voor.3 In 22-62% van de gevallen gaat het om een familiaire aandoening.
