Een pasgeborene met pentalogie van Cantrell en frontonasale dysplasie

Samenvatting

Een patiënt met alle belangrijke kenmerken passend bij een pentalogie van Cantrell en die tevens een frontonasale dysplasie heeft, wordt beschreven. Het samengaan van beide entiteiten bij één patiënt is zeer uitzonderlijk. Een gedetailleerd overzicht van de kenmerken passend bij de pentalogie van Cantrell wordt gepresenteerd. De pentalogie en frontonasale dysplasie zijn beide te verklaren als een abnormale vroegembryonale ontwikkeling van de middellijn. Het is onduidelijk waardoor deze ontwikkelingsstoornis wordt veroorzaakt. Zowel een langdurend inwerkend teratogeen agens als een mutatie in een ontwikkelingsgen zouden hieraan ten grondslag kunnen liggen.
