3. Diagnostiek van slaapstoornissen

Samenvatting

Voor het diagnosticeren van slaapstoornissen wordt gebruikgemaakt van verschillende informatiebronnen. Een uitgebreide slaapanamnese is het startpunt van elke slaapdiagnostiek. Slaapvragenlijsten vormen vaak een nuttige aanvulling. Het langere tijd bijhouden van een slaap-waakdagboek levert veel informatie over het slaap-waakgedrag. Registratie van bewegingsactiviteit middels actigrafie over meerdere weken levert een objectieve inschatting van het slaap-waakpatroon. Polysomnografie geeft inzicht in de slaaparchitectuur en de objectieve slaapkwaliteit en dient tevens voor de diagnose van verschillende specifieke slaapstoornissen, zoals slaapgerelateerde ademhalingsstoornissen. Daarnaast kunnen additionele metingen worden ingezet ter onderbouwing van de diagnose van een aantal slaapstoornissen, zoals de multiple sleep latency test bij een verdenking op een hypersomnie en de bepaling van de dim light melatonin onset bij verdenking op bepaalde circadiane slaap-waakritmestoornissen. Slaapvragenlijsten, een slaap-waakdagboek en actigrafie kunnen in elke praktijk worden gebruikt en leveren vaak al voldoende informatie om een slaapdiagnose te kunnen stellen of te besluiten de patiënt naar een slaapcentrum te verwijzen.
