Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk laat zien hoe fysiotherapeuten gericht kunnen aansluiten op de ziektepercepties van hun patiënten. Ziektepercepties zijn de gedachten die iemand heeft over de symptomen die hij of zij ervaart, en zijn onder te verdelen in vijf dimensies die worden beschreven in het zelfregulatiemodel van Leventhal. Ziektepercepties zijn van belang bij het tot stand komen van gedrag, en dus bij fysiek functioneren, en zijn daarom relevant voor de fysiotherapeut. In dit hoofdstuk wordt ingegaan op wat ziektepercepties zijn, wat de relatie tussen ziektepercepties en gedrag is en hoe ziektepercepties veranderd kunnen worden.
