Samenvatting

Darmkanker heeft geen al te beste reputatie. Een sluipmoordenaar die dagelijks dertien Nederlanders doodt, kan immers op weinig sympathie rekenen. Toch beschikken we over wapens om de strijd aan te gaan en het dodental drastisch te doen dalen. Een eenvoudige test van de ontlasting in combinatie met een darmonderzoek kan erg doeltreffend zijn. Er zijn voldoende studies die dit hebben aangetoond en er is ook geen gebrek aan richtlijnen. Er gaapt echter nog steeds een grote kloof tussen theorie en praktijk en in vergelijking met andere landen hebben we nog een lange weg af te leggen. Informatie en voorlichting zijn cruciaal in de strijd tegen darmkanker.
