Samenvatting

Men spreekt van een femurschachtfractuur indien de fractuurlijn in het gebied tussen de onderrand van de trochanter minor en het condylenblok ligt. Omdat het femur het zwaarste en sterkste pijpbeen in het lichaam is, zijn bij een gezonde volwassene grote krachten nodig om een femurschachtfractuur of een condylenfractuur te veroorzaken. Een simpele val zal zelden of nooit tot een femurschachtfractuur leiden, tenzij het bot verzwakt is door osteoporose of een andere aandoening.
