  • Leefstijladviezen hebben nauwelijks positieve invloed op de gezondheid van patiënten.
  • Veel praktijkondersteuners hanteren een traditionele strategie: informatie en advies geven over een goede leefstijl.
  • Jansink en collega’s onderzochten in de MILD-studie de belemmeringen die dertien praktijkondersteuners ondervonden wanneer ze op de traditionele manier voorlichting gaven aan patiënten met diabetes type 2.
  • Uit hun onderzoek bleek dat praktijkondersteuners vaak te hoge verwachtingen hebben van leefstijlverandering bij hun patiënten, en dat zij liever nauwkeurige adviezen geven dan de patiënt zijn eigen beslissingen te laten nemen.
  • Zo ‘lopen zij de patiënt voorbij’ en dat resulteert in weerstand bij de patiënt.
  • Met motiverende gespreksvoering kun je deze weerstand hanteren.
