Samenvatting

Wat is honing? Datgene wat onder de naam ‘honing’ als consumptieartikel op de Nederlandse markt mag verschijnen, wordt omschreven in de Warenwet (1). Samenvattend wordt daarin vermeld: honing is het door bijen gemaakte product uit de nectar van bloemen of uit de uitscheidingsstoffen van insecten (zoals honingdauw van bladluizen). De aanduiding ‘bloemenhoning’ mag uitsluitend worden gebruikt als de honing hoofdzakelijk verkregen wordt uit de nectar van bloemen. Wordt het woord bloemenhoning nog verder botanisch gespecificeerd, zoals klaverhoning, lavendelhoning en zonnebloemhoning, dan is dit toegestaan, mits de honing het vereiste procentuele gehalte aan pollen van de genoemde bloemensoort ten opzichte van het totale aantal pollen bevat. Het minimaal vereiste percentage verschilt per soort.
